Overview
This course gives you the essential skills and knowledge necessary to carry out a wide range of roles in business. You'll be taught by staff with relevant industry experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students. The course is designed to give you a broad education of all functions of business and give you a clear understanding of the business environment.
If you have studied a language before at school you will have the opportunity to further develop these skills while studying at the college and may be eligible to progress, after HND Business, to year 3 International Business with Languages at Glasgow Caledonian University.
The HNC course has recently been updated to be more relevant to the needs of industry and includes more digital and emerging technologies.
This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 7.
Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- One Higher at Grade C or above AND three National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above in relevant* subjects; OR
- NQ Business Level 6; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience
* relevant subjects include English, Administration, Business Management, Economics, Geography, History, Mathematics, Modern Studies or a Science subject.

ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

Assessment methods
All but one of the units that you study are assessed on a continuous basis throughout the year. You have one end of year exam that assesses your integrated knowledge across the course.
