    This course is a technician level qualification that will provide you with the basics you’ll need to enter into a career as a construction manager within the built environment.

    During this course you will:

    • Develop your technical knowledge and understanding.
    • Have the opportunity to develop and apply your critical reasoning and analysis skills to solve construction problems, using current industry standards and by applying contemporary industry techniques.
    • Develop your personal and business skills.

    On successful completion of the course, students may be able to progress onto 2nd year of a Construction Management degree based on achieving a high result in their end of year Graded Unit.

    Please note that successful completion of this course, students will be awarded an HNC Built Environment.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 7. 

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • One Higher at Grade C or above in an appropriate subject such as English, Mathematics or a Science subject; OR
    • National Certificate at SCQF level 6 in Built Environment; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    After the course

    Careers

    You might work as a Technician, or Junior Manager in the built environment and construction sector – architectural technology, quantity surveying, estimating, building surveying and construction management.

    Continuing Study

    After successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress into 2nd year of an HND in Architectural Technology, Building Surveying, Construction Management, or Quantity Surveying course, or into 2nd year of a related degree based on achieving a high grade in your end of year Graded Unit.
