  • Overview

    This course develops the skills you require for acting and performance. It is designed to focus on the practical skills required by the actor, while also supporting the practical experiences with knowledge of theatre and performance.

    This creative, learner-focused course is delivered by highly professional teaching staff, with significant acting and performance experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students.

    On completion of the course, you'll be awarded an HNC Acting and Performance and you may be eligible for direct entry into the second year of HND Acting and Performance.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 7. 

     

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Two Highers at Grade C or above including English; OR
    • NQ Drama; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    Additional selection requirements

    • You'll take part in a practical group workshop, incorporating a movement and vocal warm up.  You should come wearing suitable clothing for movement.
    • You'll perform an audition monologue followed by a short interview.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    There are a wide range of career opportunities which include working in theatre, education, community arts, and theatre production.

    Continuing Study

    After completing your HNC, it is possible to progress to HND Year 2 Acting and Performance at City of Glasgow College or another college.

    Teaching

    How the course is taught

    The course will be delivered using a blended learning model.

    You will learn through a mixture of face-to-face and online teaching, using the college virtual learning environment (VLE).

    Practical elements of the course will continue where possible to be delivered on campus in specialist rooms and workshops. Activity on campus will be in smaller focused groups within safe working environments. You should expect to be in the college for part of the week.

    Remote (online) learning will be used for subjects that are more suited to this type of teaching.  You will need access to a computer or device for this type of learning and access to the internet*.  Resources and learning materials will all be available through the VLE although this will still be tutor-led.

    *Students with no access to a computer or wifi at home will be given alternative options to allow online studying to be possible.
