Overview

Please note - this is a school college partnership course for school students in S4-S6.

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behaviour. This course develops your ability to analyse explanations for individual and social behaviour. You will learn about how thoughts and emotions can affect how we feel and behave. 

You’ll gain an understanding of different psychological approaches through the study of stress and sleep. You’ll study social behaviour, examining prejudice, conformity and obedience. 

As Psychology is a research-based subject, you will gain an understanding of research methods and skills, including experimental and non-experimental research methods, research designs and analysis. You will conduct practical research, working with human participants, in accordance with ethical standards.

 Attendance Pattern

  • Tuesday and Thursday (1.30pm – 4pm).

Minimum entry requirements

This course would suit curious and analytical students with good attention to detail interested in the human mind and behaviour.   Applicants must have achieved 3 National 5 subjects at C or above, including one literary subject.

Careers

Further study of psychology will equip you with many transferable skills and qualities valued within the public, private and third sector including research and data analysis, critical thinking and relationship building. Psychology graduates work in many settings, such as health and social care, education, charity, commerce, human resources, marketing or data analytics. 

Continuing Study 

Successful completion of Higher Psychology allows students to progress through HNC to HND in Social Sciences.
