Overview
Please Note: This is a school college partnership course. We can only accept online applications from Secondary School pupils in their Senior Phase.
Women make up 14% of construction industry professionals. With that number increasing, our Women into Construction Foundation Apprenticeship has been designed to provide an inclusive space that will support women to succeed in the world of built environment.
The programme combines classroom sessions, hands-on experiences, and employability-focused training.
This course will help you learn more about the industry, explore the job opportunities available, and understand how to navigate a construction environment safely.
Learning with like-minded students, you will use our state-of-the-art workshop facilities to develop your technical and practical abilities in trades such as carpentry and decorative painting.
Within our supportive learning environment, you'll build skills in confidence, communication, and problem-solving – all qualities needed to have a successful career in construction.
Collaborating with industry leaders, you will visit job sites, work on real projects, and acquire valuable employability skills for the future.
Attendance Pattern
Friday 1.30pm – 4pm.

Minimum entry requirements
Applicants should want to learn more about the construction industry and/or be considering a career in the sector.
You must have achieved or are currently working towards National 4 Literacy and Numeracy

After the course
Careers
This course will provide you with a sound understanding of the career paths, entry requirements and working conditions featured within the construction industry.
With further specialised training, you can pursue a variety of careers in areas such as bricklaying, painting and decorating, plastering and carpentry and joinery.
Continuing Study
Upon completion of this course, you could:
- Progress on to a specific trade programme at college
- Earn as you learn with a Modern Apprenticeship
- Continue your study with us and complete a Level 5 Foundation Apprenticeship in Construction
Teaching
How the course is taught
This is a practical course with many of your classes in our onsite workshop or externally with an employer. There are some theory-based units, which are delivered in an interactive classroom setting.
For the practical side of the course, you will be given steel-toed safety boots and work coveralls. Safety boots are to be always worn during practical activities; however, workwear must not be worn outside the construction hall or workwear cafe.
