Overview
Considering leaving school in January? Join our Winter Leavers Foundation Apprenticeship in Construction for an engaging six months of learning.
The apprenticeship combines a mixture of classroom sessions, hands-on experiences, and employability-focused training.
This course will help you learn more about the industry, explore the job opportunities available, and understand how to navigate a construction environment safely.
Learning with like-minded students, you will get to use our state-of-the-art workshop facilities to develop your technical and practical abilities in trades such as carpentry and decorative painting.
Within our supportive learning environment, you build upon skills in confidence, communication, and problem-solving – all qualities that are needed to have a successful career in construction.
Collaborating with industry leaders, you will get to visit job sites, work on real projects, and acquire valuable employability skills for the future.

This course is open to S4 - S6 students.
- Applicants should want to learn more about the construction industry and/or be considering a career in the sector.
- It is essential that you have achieved National 4 Literacy and Numeracy.

After the course
Careers
This course will provide you with a sound understanding of the career paths, entry requirements and working conditions featured within the construction industry. With further specialised training, you can pursue a variety of careers in areas such as bricklaying, painting and decorating, plastering and carpentry and joinery.
Continuing Study
Upon completion of this course, you could:
- Progress on to a specific trade programme at college.
- Earn as you learn with a Modern Apprenticeship.
- Continue your study with us and complete a Level 5 Foundation Apprenticeship in Construction.
Teaching
How the course is taught
This is a practical course with many of your classes taking place in our workshop on site or externally with an employer. There are some theory-based units, which are delivered in an interactive classroom setting.
