Overview

This course is designed for non-native English speakers who are interested in working in the care sector.

This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Levels 4 and 5.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

National 4 ESOL or equivalent.

Additional selection requirements

  • If you’re not a current ESOL student at City of Glasgow College, you may be required to attend for English language level testing.
  • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area, or we'll make an offer based on your application form.

ESOL entry requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

What you study

  • National 4 Care – this qualification includes four care units related to working in the care sector.
  • National 5 ESOL – this qualification allows learners to achieve an upper-intermediate level of English language proficiency.

After the course

Careers

Possible employment in the care sector, in roles such as care assistant, or support worker.

Continuing Study

Possible progression onto care courses at level 5, such as NQ Child, Health and Social Care. A full progression pathway exists to courses such as NC Health and Social Care, and HNs in Social Services and Healthcare Practice. Successful students can then progress on to university degrees in areas such as nursing, social work, or health-related subjects.
