  • Overview

    The Diploma of Higher Education in Social Sciences is offered by City of Glasgow College, in association with the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

    It is equivalent to the first two years of an Honours Degree at the University of Strathclyde and therefore allows you to apply for direct entry to the third year of the BA Politics and/or History Degree.

    In the first year you'll study History, Politics, Economics and Psychology and in the second year Politics and History only.

    If you leave after one year – or don’t meet the requirements for the Diploma after two years – you may be awarded a Certificate of Higher Education in Social Sciences.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 8. 

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Three Highers, one at Grade C and two at Grade B, which must include Higher English (or ESOL equivalent) and one other Higher in a social science subject from the following list only: Modern Studies, Sociology, Politics, Psychology, History, Economics, Philosophy or RMPS; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.
