Overview
This course will be predominantly practice-based with a strong focus on understanding the multi-disciplinary requirements of Creative Industries. The distinctive profile of this course will allow you to work with others from a variety of different HND design subject areas.
This approach will give you an opportunity to respond in a totally new way, reinforcing the importance of developing a collaborative approach to your practice.
Throughout the course, there will be a strong focus on how you develop additional skills, such as critical engagement, self-management, problem-solving, responsibility, adaptability and networking, which are highly prized by employers and necessary for self-employment.

Minimum entry requirements
You should have successfully completed an HND in a design subject with a minimum ‘B’ in both graded units such as:
- HND Applied Arts.
- HND Furniture Design.
- HND Visual Communication.
- HND Graphic Design.
- HND Illustration.
- HND Interior Design.
- HND Jewellery Design.
- HND Model Making.
- HND Product Design.
You can apply directly to City of Glasgow College (applications open in Jan) or via UCAS.
Additional selection requirements
- You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
- At the interview, you will be asked to present a portfolio which should demonstrate focused studio practice, a sophisticated theoretical approach to your work and a passion for investigation & development through the sketchbook process.
ESOL entry requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

After the course
Careers
An understanding of the nature and power of multi-skilled individuals is central to those seeking employment within the Creative Industries. Additionally, it is increasingly recognised that creative approaches to processes are valuable across many industry sectors.
Career options include a range of employment or self-employment across a range of design-based practices. Employers may include Design Studios, Community Education, Universities, Schools and Colleges, Galleries and Museums, Arts, Culture and Media organisations, IT and other commercial organisations.
Continuing Study
Following successful completion of fourth year Honours you may progress to Masters programmes such as:

Teaching
How the course is taught
The course will be delivered using a blended learning model. Our approach combines an art school experience with the supportive college environment.
You will learn through a mixture of face-to-face and online teaching, using the college virtual learning environment Canvas
Practical elements of the course will continue where possible to be delivered on campus in the specialist rooms and workshops. Workshops have included skills development in; screen printing, riso printing, digital imaging, machine workshops (wood & acrylic), laser cutting, 3D printing, model making, mixed media, collage, typography, self-promotion, business start up and exhibition design
Remote (online) learning will be used for subjects that are more suited to this type of teaching. Students will need access to a computer or device for this type of learning and access to the internet*. Resources and learning materials will all be available through the VLE although this will still be tutor-led.
The course will be underpinned by direct engagement with industry, through work placements, mentorship and industry-led design projects. Collaboration will be a key factor throughout the course, with dedicated modules in both the third and fourth year.
*Students with no access to a computer or wifi at home will be given alternative options to allow online studying.
