  • Overview

    This is a practice-based degree, where you'll have opportunities to explore two and three-dimensional art as well as lens-based and digital disciplines. You'll have opportunities through your studies for professional placements in the arts and for curation and self-promotion. Critical thinking and writing are also central to the course.

    This course is delivered by City of Glasgow College and validated by the University of the West of Scotland. We encourage a high level of artistic exploration and personal development in students while delivering a distinct and prestigious vocational qualification.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 9.

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • HND in Contemporary Art Practice (or equivalent) with a good pass in the graded unit; OR
    • Relevant professional experience.
    • You must also meet the general admission requirements of the University and apply via UCAS.

    Additional selection requirements

    • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.
    • You'll be asked to present a portfolio that should demonstrate your art practice and be prepared to discuss the contents of your portfolio - Portfolio Guidance.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    After the course

    Careers

    This course prepares you for a career as a practicing artist, roles in museums, galleries, studios, art centres, public art and public sector agencies, education bodies, festivals and art fairs.

    Continuing Study

    Many of our graduates go on to study at Masters Degree level both nationally and internationally in a variety of specialisms including Fine Art, Curatorial Studies and Arts Management as well as undertaking post-graduate Teacher Training Programmes.
