We are pleased to offer the following short courses which are required for progression to an OOW or Chief Mates and master's Unlimited Certificate of Competency from the United Kingdom.  The courses are also suitable for candidates looking to refresh or gain knowledge, you will be issued with a certificate of attendance (Non-STCW). We have several dates over the next year for these courses. 

 

Navigation Aids and Equipment Simulator Training (NAEST) - Operational Level

This courses will equip OOW candidates with the skills to use modern navigation systems to aid in decision-making. Effective bridge resource management principles are also explored.  The course provides training to keep a safe navigational watch and to use radar, Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA), Automatic Identification Systems (AIS), echo sounders, Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm Systems (BNWAS), voyage data recorders (VDRs) and other electronic aids to maintain safety of navigation, meeting the knowledge, understanding and proficiency (KUP) requirements set out as per Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB).

These courses will equip Chief Mate candidates with the skills to use modern navigation systems to aid in decision-making. Effective bridge resource management principles are also explored. The course provides essential training to maintain safe navigational watch through the use of radar, Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA), Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS), Automatic Identification Systems (AIS), and modern navigation systems to assist command decision-making and the application of effective bridge resource management principles and procedures meeting the knowledge, understanding and proficiency (KUP) requirements.

Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) Simulator Training

This simulator course is delivered on the latest ECDIS equipment in a state-of-the-art simulator room giving candidates the feel of working on an actual wheelhouse of the ship.  The course provides essential training in Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) Simulator Training, meeting the knowledge, understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements set out as per Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB).  The course is approved by the MCA and based on Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) criteria for ECDIS.  It is also approved by Wartsila for type-specific training on the Navi Sailor 4000 ECDIS.  Students who successfully complete this course will be issued with a certification for Generic ECDIS training (IMO Model course 1.27).

Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)

General Operator’s Certificate (GOC) & Restricted Operator’s Certificate (ROC).  This AMERC approved (MCA, UK endorsed) course provides theoretical and practical training for anyone wishing to operate Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems (GMDSS) radio systems. It is a mandatory requirement for the issue of an Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency (COC).

The GMDSS course provides candidates with essential education and training meeting the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements set out in the STCW and complies with the latest Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) requirements. It also covers the current CEPT syllabus and the requirements of Chapter IV of the International Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention 1974 as amended, and relevant ITU Radio Regulations.
