What is a Modern Apprenticeship?

Modern Apprenticeships are work-based learning programmes that enable individuals to earn while they learn and gain industry-recognised qualifications.

Apprentices will split their time between work and training. This typically includes a mix of on-the-job training and formal learning carried out both on campus and remotely.

Modern Apprenticeships bridge the skills gap by providing both young people and adults with valuable qualifications and career-making opportunities.

Funding at a Glance

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) provides a funding contribution to support apprenticeship training. The contribution amount depends on:

  • The apprentices age
  • The type of qualification
  • The qualification level

Employers may be required to contribute depending on these factors, but the investment pays off by upskilling your team and addressing skills gaps.  For a detailed overview please see our Eligibility & Funding Guide
