INNOVATE UK FUNDED CENTRE LAUNCHES AT CITY OF GLASGOW COLLEGE

Delegates at the business breakfast event on Wed 25 September 2024

City of Glasgow College launched the Centre for Innovation Leadership, as part of a business breakfast event on Wed 25 September 2024.

Providing support on both innovation strategy development and using sector-leading tools and techniques to simplify and structure innovation, the centre is one of 6 specialised Centres aligned with Glasgow City Region’s economic priorities. It is part of a 12-month pilot project, funded by the Innovate UK Further Education Innovation Fund, and is dedicated to driving digital innovation and productivity across the region.

The event allowed participants to find out about the fully funded support available through the College Local Innovation Centres (CLIC) project and the unique opportunity to hear from one of the world’s largest companies, Amazon, who shared their unique culture and how they drive innovation through four distinct elements: Culture, Mechanisms, Architecture, and Organisation. Glasgow-based AWS Senior Customer Solutions Manager Naminder Dhami illustrated Amazon’s Culture of Innovation, and how organisations can adopt similar ways of working.

Roy Gardner, Vice Principal at City of Glasgow College, said:

“Innovation is key in how we at City diversify and grow in a very competitive and uncertain landscape. The CLIC project represents an unrivalled opportunity to not only enable our business community to grow and enhance productivity but offers a platform to build capacity in a college sector that is vital in delivering economic, environmental and social value for Glasgow City Region.”

Stuart McDowall, Head of Innovation & STEM at City of Glasgow College, said:

“Adopting a customer-centric approach was one of the key take-aways from our event and we were delighted to have Naminder with us, who shared some simple but powerful ways to develop an innovative culture through empowering teams and building structure around continuous innovation.”
