Diploma of Higher Education Courses at City

A Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) is a higher education qualification equivalent to the first two years of a degree course.  DipHE qualifications are recognised by employers and universities as evidence of academic skills and competence.

At City of Glasgow College, we offer three Diploma of Higher Education courses in partnership with Strathclyde University.  This guarantees successful students can move directly into 3rd year of the relevant degree at Strathclyde University or apply for courses at other universities.

Why should I study a DipHE?

  • Fast-track to a degree on successful completion of the DipHE - you can move on to 3rd year of the relevant degree course at Strathclyde University or apply for degree courses at other universities.
  • Career opportunities - A DipHE can help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to pursue entry-level positions in your chosen field. Additionally, some employers may view a DipHE as evidence of your dedication to learning and your ability to work at a high academic level.

What is the difference between an HND and a DipHE?

A Diploma of Higher Education, just like a Higher National Diploma, takes two years to complete.

A DipHE is an academic qualification designed to provide students with a broad foundation of knowledge in a particular subject area. DipHE programs are more theoretical and academic and are often a good option for students who want to continue their studies to obtain a degree.

HND programs are more focused on practical skills and work-based learning and are often a good option for students who want to enter a specific profession or industry.
