  • Overview

    This new Next Gen Award has been developed to address the current demand and growth of employment across audio content creation, particularly within podcasting. You will be producing and presenting in our new industry-standard robotic podcast visualisation suite, City Podcast and our digital radio station, City Radio. We have all the licenses required to allow the broadcast of your shows. Students are encouraged to join our Radio Network and create their own programmes outwith the curriculum.

    Minimum entry requirements

    • A relevant HNC that includes units from across broadcasting, media, communications/content creation and/or business.

    • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area or we'll make an offer based on your application form.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.

    Careers

    You will have the knowledge and skills to apply for positions across audio content creation.  For example podcaster, content producer, assistant, presenter, sound assistant, studio manager, commercial traffic, music scheduling and marketing roles. 

    This could be with commercial or BBC broadcasting, production company, publisher, marketing/public relations agency, in-house media for a company or go freelance/self-employed.

    Teaching

    How the course is taught

    The focus of this course is content creation, production and presentation will be conducted in our audio classrooms, podcasting and radio studios using industry-standard kit and equipment. Teaching on this course employs a wide variety of experiences, from tutor-led lectures to individual and group work around a project-based delivery. Emphasis will be placed on a student-centred approach to learning. 

    Assessment methods

    Continuous assessment is employed on the course with students often assessed as they complete various roles, so a high level of attendance is vital.  You will work on practical project briefs relevant to skills, knowledge and experience required for employment.
